On Wednesday, January 14th at 6:51 a.m., we welcomed Zachary -- George Zachary Herr -- to our family!
We were blessed with a happy, healthy baby boy! At birth, Zach was 7 lbs, 15 oz. and 21.5 inches.
We have already had some noteworthy adventures getting to know Zach -- dodging sprays, getting familiar with wacky newborn sleep cycles, and constructing -easy to assemble- baby gizmos.
We are happy to be home now!
P.S. The pediatrician at the hospital said Zach was a perfect 10 on his CQ (cuteness quotient) rating, for which he got two points each for having a big head and big eyes, and a small nose and small mouth; Zach rounded out his point total by getting two more points for not peeing on, or biting, the pediatrician during his exam.
We are getting ready for the 2008 Bike MS in May! We are riding twice - in the DC area with some local friends and in the Richmond area with our brother-in-law Tom Sauer! Last year, our team raised over $10,000 for MS research and programs.
In February, Kristin got a new job with Intercontinental Hotel Group! They are the world's largest hotelier with 4000 hotels, and with Kristin's help will have 585,000 rooms by the end of 2008. IHG owns Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza, among other brands.
We took our dream trip and celebrated our second anniversary! We got a "round the world ticket" and took a full month off from work! We visited 6 countries: England, Thailand, Cambodia, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. Wow!! What was our favorite? The top three are the temples of Angkor, Sydney, and New Zealand when we were hiking the Franz Josef glacier.
Using Southpark Style, we designed cartoon characters in our images. Perhaps you can guess whose idea that was!
When we bought our home in Vienna, we loved everything but the 80s-style kitchen. This summer, we took the challenge and redesigned our kitchen! We gutted the whole thing, and installed new oak cabinets, a new countertop, and tiled the floor and backsplash! We love the finished product!
Here is the kitchen -- before and after!
We both successfully rode in the DC area 25th Annual MS bike ride on May 19 (30 hilly miles)! The weather was perfect and it was a great training ride for Amy, who then rode in the Richmond area ride on June 2nd (75 miles) while Chris volunteered at the Century loop. We're especially excited that Amy's sister, Kristin, flew in from London to joined the team to do the ride!
Here we are mailing our fundraising letters!
For our first Anniversary, we went to Guatemala for a week. Here is a picture from our trip to Tikal. You may recognize the temples in the back as they were on the 4th moon of Yavin in Star Wars, A New Hope!
We were a little jealous of Amy and Kevin's name for their son, because we had considered using the name Benjamin someday. Wouldn't Ben Herr be a great name for a child?
